Why is this needed?

Each year colleges receive record numbers of applications and are challenged to identify “Who are the right students for our campus?” To answer that question, colleges largely use a “holistic review” approach that goes beyond the transcript and test scores. In the holistic admission review, emphasis is placed on understanding who the student is and how they may contribute in meaningful ways on campus. The essays, activities lists, and letters of recommendation do just that. That’s why a good deal of time must go into these – to make them as compelling as possible. Without a doubt, the greatest amount of time spent completing college applications is on writing (and rewriting) the essays and activities list. Once done, the rest is relatively easy and the student is nearly to the goal line!

Who is eligible to attend?

  • These rising Seniors must have a complete college list before the workshop. During the bootcamp we do not develop college lists.

  • Since we’ll be working on the Common Application, this workshop is only for students who are applying to private and out-of-state universities. We do not cover the UC, CalStateApply, and direct applications.

  • The fast pace of this bootcamp is intended only for students who do not struggle with writing assignments. Given the accelerated nature of this program, we will not have the resources to adequately support students who need significant help on essays. Those students benefit most from working at a slower pace, 1-on-1 with a professional college essay editor.
