Does your Facebook page really matter?

I have heard admissions officers say they don't have time to scour the internet to look for a student's Facebook profile. Now we have new information that says, yes, it does matter!  Read what happened when this student continuously tweeted when she was visiting Oberlin:  http://www.nytimes.com/2013/11/10/business/they-loved-your-gpa-then-they-saw-your-tweets.html

Visiting colleges is a great way to get to know them. I'm sure many of you have walked along a campus and made a less than complimentary statement about something you don't like; just don't tweet them! Or post them on your Facebook or Instagram. Colleges are becoming as savvy as students as to the benefits of having a social media presence.

Start following your top 10 colleges on Twitter and Instagram. See what they're posting and tweeting to get the campus vibe. Right now as we enjoy sunny, 65 degree weather, I see the following pic on Univ. of Michigan's Instagram! Is that for you?

Top websites-students are using more websites than ever and here are the top 5 being used in the college search: www.Fastweb.com, www.CollegeBoard.com, www.college.niche.com,  www.Cappex.com, and www.ACT.org
